Qualified Treatment Sources
The Social Security Administration has many guidelines to determine whether or not a person can be defined as "disabled." You may need to provide supporting documents to prove your condition, illness, or injury is as severe as you claim it is. Medical tests and treatments from a qualified medical doctor or professional help demonstrate your disability.
According to the Social Security Administration, qualified medical professionals include:
- licensed physicians, such as medical or osteopathic doctors
- licensed or certified psychologists
- licensed optometrists
- licensed podiatrists
- qualified speech-language pathologists
You may find treatment helpful from other sources, but the SSA isn't going to consider it as qualified medical treatment. The SSA does not consider testimony from the following sources to be sufficient in proving a disability:
- nurse practitioners
- physicians assistants
- natural medicine practitioners
- chiropractors
- audiologists
- physical therapists
Your condition, injury, or illness can be serious, so seek the advice of a medical professional wherever there is one qualified and prepared to help you. Worry about medical records after your treatment. Your claim might still be approved if you have other sources that validate your medical condition.
